icEscape
a spatial sound installation on the hiking trail to the Großvenediger

icEscape is an open-air sound installation that places the peculiar sounds of a melting glacier directly into the trails of the Obersulzbach Kees’ (Großvenediger) retreat. As auditory witnesses, a series of soundscapes accompany the Gletscherweg Obersulzbachtal from the
glacier’s greatest recorded expanse to the Sulzsee. Located inside the Hohe Tauern National Park, the installation offers a temporary glimpse of these hidden, often delicate sounds recorded on the glacier itself to visitors and hikers via listening objects and headphones—reevoking the once imposing presence of these ice masses in places where their memory has started to fade through sound.
